What Renton Does to Siding
Renton’s biggest siding story is age math. The neighborhoods that boomed with Boeing — and the Highlands, Kennydale, and Fairwood plats that followed — are now fifty to seventy years old, which means original siding at the end of its life and, on homes re-sided in the mid-’80s through mid-’90s, that era’s moisture-prone hardboard failing early. Swelling at board joints and soft bottom edges are the signs worth an inspection.
Terrain does the rest. The Highlands and the slopes above the Cedar River and Lake Washington put a lot of Renton homes on grades, where runoff concentrates at the base of walls and the lowest siding courses rot first. Correct ground clearances and flashing at those courses are most of the fix.
How We Work
Tear-off and sheathing inspection, weather-resistive barrier, flashing at every opening and transition, siding installed to the manufacturer’s specification, sealing, paint if it’s in scope, and a final walkthrough. One face of the house at a time — watertight throughout — with daily cleanup including a rolling magnet for nails. Work hours 8 to 5, Monday through Friday.

How do I know if my siding is the failing hardboard from the '80s and '90s?
Look at the butt joints and the bottom edges. Hardboard fails by absorbing moisture, so it swells at the joints, goes soft or spongy along the lower edge, and often delaminates into a fibrous texture rather than cracking cleanly. If a screwdriver presses into it, that answers the question — and it's worth acting on, because once it starts wicking water the sheathing behind it is next.
Does moss on the roof matter for my siding?
It does. Moss holds water against the roofline and releases it slowly down the wall below, so the siding under a mossy edge stays wet far longer than the rest. On Renton's shaded lots that's often why one elevation looks a decade older than the others.
