Building paper is not a lesser housewrap. It is a different, older answer — and behind three-coat stucco it is still the right one.
Jumbo Tex is asphalt-saturated kraft building paper: a Grade D weather-resistive barrier, mechanically fastened, made by Henry and covered by ICC-ES report ESR-1027. It is not an engineered synthetic wrap and nobody should sell it as one. What it is instead is the barrier that stucco has been detailed against for the better part of a century, and it behaves predictably behind a cementitious cladding in a way that not every plastic wrap does.
The grade distinction matters. Plain Jumbo Tex is a 20-minute paper. Super Jumbo Tex, Two-Ply Jumbo Tex and Two-Ply Super Jumbo Tex carry the 60-minute rating — and they are not interchangeable, whatever a supplier’s shorthand suggests.
Behind three-coat stucco, Henry strongly recommends two layers of weather-resistive barrier, which is exactly what Two-Ply Jumbo Tex delivers in a single pass. ESR-1027 also varies its stucco requirements by climate zone, and western Washington sits in the moist/marine zone, which carries requirements beyond the dry-zone method. A single layer of plain Jumbo Tex behind three-coat stucco on a Seattle, Bellevue or Tacoma wall is not something we would put our name to.
Henry publishes no UV exposure limit for Jumbo Tex — only that it should be covered as soon as possible. Paper degrades in sunlight faster than a synthetic wrap does, so we sequence the cladding accordingly rather than quoting a number that does not exist.

The 15-year materials-and-labor warranty sometimes attached to Jumbo Tex belongs to Henry’s 1-2-3 Moisture Control System, not to the paper on its own. It requires a Henry product from all three categories — barrier, window flashing and sealant — and claims must be filed in writing within thirty days of discovery. Describing Jumbo Tex as carrying a 15-year warranty by itself is not accurate.
