Woodtone does not make siding. It finishes it — and that distinction decides which warranty covers what.

Woodtone applies a factory coating over somebody else’s board: Allura, James Hardie or LP SmartSide. You get the substrate manufacturer’s warranty on the board and Woodtone’s warranty on the finish. They are two separate documents with two separate sets of terms, and anyone describing the result as a single 30-year siding warranty has collapsed two things that should stay apart.

The finish is the reason to specify it. RusticSeries comes in lap, shake and panel profiles with a cedar-look coating applied under factory conditions rather than on a scaffold in the rain — which, on a Seattle or Tacoma re-side booked for October, is not a small advantage. Their US operation is in Everett, so it is close-to-home product for a Puget Sound job.

The coating warranty runs thirty years from the date of application and covers three specific things: the coating will not peel or flake, dirt removal with a mild detergent will not damage it, and color will not fade more than 10 Delta E units.

Read the proration and the exclusions before leaning on that thirty. Years one to three cover 100% of coating cost; years four to ten reduce by 7% a year; years eleven to thirty by 3% a year. Labor for applying replacement product is specifically excluded, and “original owner” means the builder, developer and first purchaser — so in practice it does not follow the house.

Two limitations that rarely appear in a description of this product. The peel-and-flake guarantee applies to fiber cement substrates only — engineered wood, meaning LP SmartSide, is excluded from that coverage. And mold and mildew are an explicit warranty exclusion, so any moss or algae resistance claim attached to Woodtone is not supported by Woodtone’s own documents. No fire rating is published for RusticSeries; the fire-resistant item in their range is a post, not siding. Note also that the warranty page on their site is a claim submission form rather than the terms, and claims must be filed within ten days of discovering a problem.

Key Features & Benefits

  • A factory finish, not a site one. The coating goes on under controlled conditions rather than on a scaffold in October, which is why it behaves consistently across every board.
  • A cedar look without the cedar upkeep. RusticSeries in lap, shake and panel profiles, over a substrate that does not check, cup or need feeding every couple of years.
  • Your choice of substrate. Applied over Allura, James Hardie or LP SmartSide — so you pick the board first and the finish second.
  • Fade warranted to a number. Color is warranted not to shift more than 10 Delta E units, which is a measurable commitment rather than an adjective.
  • Washable without damage. The warranty covers dirt removal with a mild detergent not harming the coating — useful on a shaded Puget Sound wall.
  • Made close to home. Woodtone’s US operation is in Everett, so lead times and color matching are a regional conversation rather than a national one.
  • Two warranties, not one. The coating is Woodtone’s; the board underneath carries its own separate manufacturer warranty. They are different documents with different terms.
  • Read the proration. Thirty years, but reducing 7% a year from year four and 3% a year from year eleven, with labor excluded and no transfer to the next owner.

Why Choose Side-Pro

Prefinished board arrives perfect. Everything that happens to it after the truck is where the finish is won or lost.

The advantage of a factory coating is that it is already cured when it reaches you. The risk is that a prefinished board is a finished surface being handled by people with tools — scuffed on the stack, scratched on the way up the scaffold, or cut and left with a raw edge that never gets touched up. None of that is covered by anybody’s warranty, and all of it is visible from the street.

Handled as a finished surfaceStacked, carried and cut with the coating treated as the product rather than as packaging
Cut ends touched upEvery field cut sealed with the manufacturer’s touch-up before it goes on the wall, not at the end of the week
The right substrate warrantyWe tell you which board is under the finish and what its own warranty covers, because it is not the same document

We install Woodtone across Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma and the surrounding Puget Sound communities, most often where someone wants the warmth of timber on a wall that never gets enough sun to justify real timber.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does prefinished wood siding really hold up in Seattle's rainy climate?

When properly installed with sealed end cuts, correct clearance from grade and rooflines, and a quality WRB behind it, prefinished wood siding performs very well in the Pacific Northwest. The factory finish is far more durable than field-applied paint because it is applied under controlled conditions to properly dried and prepared wood.

How often does Woodtone siding need to be repainted?

Woodtone's factory finish is designed to last significantly longer than field paint—typically 10–15 years before a refresh coat is needed, versus 5–7 years for field-painted wood. Actual performance depends on sun exposure, overhang coverage, and maintenance practices.

Is wood siding a good choice for a green building project in Seattle?

Yes. Woodtone sources from responsibly managed forests and wood is a renewable, carbon-sequestering material. Combined with a high-performance WRB, a wood siding assembly can contribute to a well-insulated, energy-efficient building envelope.

Can Side-Pro match existing Woodtone siding for a repair or addition?

In many cases, yes. Woodtone offers a wide range of stain and paint colors and we can often source matching profiles for additions or partial repairs. Contact Side-Pro with photos of your existing siding for a matching assessment.
