VaproShieldVapor-permeable WRB and air barrier membranes
Installed by Side-Pro Exteriors across Seattle, Bellevue and Tacoma

A membrane engineered in Washington State, for walls that spend eight months of the year wet.

VaproShield makes vapor-permeable water-resistive and air barrier membranes for walls and roofs, in both self-adhered and mechanically attached forms. WrapShield SA is the self-adhered wall membrane we reach for most often. The company is headquartered in Washington State, which is not a marketing detail — the products were developed against the same wet, mild, long-drying-season conditions our walls actually face.

The range includes UV-stable membranes intended to sit behind open-joint and rainscreen cladding, where the barrier is partly visible through the gaps and an ordinary wrap would degrade. That is a real capability and a narrow one; most WRBs cannot do it.

WrapShield SA is published as sustaining 180 days of UV and climate exposure and carries a Class A fire rating. As with every membrane on this site, treat 180 days as a ceiling rather than a plan — a barrier left open through a full Seattle winter is a barrier working at the edge of what it was tested for.

We install VaproShield assemblies on residential and commercial buildings across Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma and the wider Puget Sound region.

We have deliberately not published a perm rating or a warranty term for VaproShield here. Their document server does not serve those figures to us reliably, and we would rather leave a number out than print one we have not read off the manufacturer’s own sheet. VaproShield’s warranty is issued by request against a project profile rather than as a blanket term, so if warranty coverage is part of your decision, ask us and we will get the specific document for your assembly.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Developed in Washington State. VaproShield is headquartered here, and the products were designed against the same wet, mild, slow-drying conditions our walls actually face.
  • Vapor-permeable by design. The membranes are built to let a wall dry outward rather than to seal it in — the right instinct for a Puget Sound assembly.
  • Self-adhered or mechanically attached. WrapShield SA bonds fully to the sheathing; mechanically attached versions suit walls where that is not wanted.
  • UV-stable options for open-joint cladding. A genuinely narrow capability: membranes intended to sit behind rainscreen and open-joint facades where the barrier is partly visible.
  • 180 days of exposure on WrapShield SA. Enough to absorb a schedule that slips, though it is a ceiling rather than a plan.
  • Class A fire rating. On the WrapShield SA system.
  • Water and air barrier together. One membrane doing both jobs, with no separate air-sealing layer to install and inspect.
  • Ask for the project warranty. VaproShield issues warranty against a project profile rather than as a blanket term, so it is worth requesting the document for your specific assembly.

Why Choose Side-Pro

A membrane made for this climate still has to be detailed for this climate. The product is the easy half.

Open-joint and rainscreen facades are where VaproShield earns its place, and they are also where the barrier stops being invisible. Behind a slatted or gapped cladding the membrane is doing UV duty, water duty and air duty at once, and every fastener, lap and transition is potentially visible through the gap. That changes how the wall has to be set out, not just how it is sealed.

Laps planned for visibilityOn open-joint facades the membrane is part of what you see — laps and fixings set out accordingly
Transitions detailedRoof, foundation and opening transitions resolved as part of the barrier rather than patched at the end
Warranty document requestedWe get the project-specific warranty from VaproShield rather than assuming a blanket term applies

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes VaproShield better than standard Tyvek for Seattle homes?

VaproShield's variable vapor permeability and higher overall permeance rating give wall assemblies greater drying potential—particularly important in Seattle-Tacoma's climate where walls can stay damp for extended periods. For standard residential construction, Tyvek performs well. For high-performance or green-certified projects, VaproShield's advanced moisture management characteristics offer a meaningful upgrade.

What is RevealShield and when is it used?

RevealShield is a UV-stable VaproShield variant designed to remain permanently exposed in open-joint or drained rainscreen cladding systems where the WRB is visible between panel joints. It provides both weather resistance and a finished appearance suitable for high-design applications.

Is VaproShield compatible with Equitone or Swisspearl rainscreen systems?

Yes. VaproShield membranes are compatible with rainscreen siding systems including Equitone and Swisspearl. Side-Pro installs VaproShield as the WRB layer in rainscreen assemblies on design-forward projects throughout the metro area.

Does VaproShield qualify for LEED credits on Seattle commercial projects?

VaproShield products support LEED certification goals including energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and moisture management. Specific credit eligibility depends on the full project assembly and certification pathway. Side-Pro can coordinate with your project's LEED consultant to confirm compliance documentation.
